  • MILLBURY, Mass. - Andrew Piscitelli, a junior at the University of Rhode Island from Millbury, recently won the shot put event as Rhode Island successfully defended its Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championship.

    Piscitelli, a mechanical engineering major, finished up his second dominating day performance in a row for the Rams with a winning throw of 52'-7.50" as Rhode Island put on an impressive showing totalling 186.5 points tallying up five first place finishes to capture the title.

    Piscitelli still owns the high school record for the shot put (54'7") and the discus (166'7") where he served as captain of the track team. He finished runner-up in the state in the discus throw and was named ALL SWCL, a District E Champ and all-class runner-up.

    Rhode Island will be competing in the New England Indoor championships in Boston on Feb 25 - 26.
