MILLBURY, Mass. - The Millbury girls varsity basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to Quabog Regional High School 41-36 on Sunday afternoon at the 10th annual Westborough Invitational Basketball Tournament.

The Lady Cougars were led by Jessica Korzec who fired in 16 points and provided some key defense with solid play and a few steals to come back from 11 down in the second quarter to defeat Millbury.

Both teams came in at 14-4, but the Lady Woolies got off to fast start going on a 7-0 run before Coach Al Burton called one of two critical time outs for the Lady Cougars. They responded by going on a 9-3 run themselves to end the first quarter down only 10-9.

Millbury started to pull away in the second quarter and just before the half led by as many as 11 at 24-13. But Burton called another time out and the Lady Cougars responded, scoring the last 5 points to go into halftime down only 24-18.

The third quarter was a nightmare for the Lady Woolies who kept turning the ball over but played pretty tight defensively and still led 30-26 after three quarters. But the writing was on the wall as Millbury wasn't getting any offense going at all.

Freshman center Brittany Herring sank two free throws to put Quabog up for the first time at 36-34 with just 2:47 to play. And the Cougars defense stifled Millbury down the stretch.

The Lady Woolies were led by Molly McCausland who put in 11 points and sophomore center Peyton Bruegger who played another huge game on the boards and scored 7 points.

Millbury will play Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. again in Westborough and face the loser of the Holy Name and Westborough game.
