When the camera pans the Super Bowl XLVI crowd in Indianapolis today, keep an eye out for Grafton residents Steve Holbrook and Bob Manning.
The pair will be ensconced in section 429 for the New England Patriots-New York Giants matchup, hoping that, this time, the pairing will mean a win for the Pats.
Holbrook remembers the last loss all too well. He was there -- and he was there for the other Patriots Super Bowls during the Tom Brady years.
"I've been lucky enough to get tickets," said Holbrook, who was able to obtain them through his company, which has season tickets. "It's an adventure, it's a great experience, it's crazy."
Holbrook and Manning flew down to Indianapolis Friday and planned to spend the time leading up to the Super Bowl checking out sports memorabilia and all of the NFL-related hoopla. Today, he expects he will need to be at the stadium by 2 p.m. -- not for tailgating, which is prohibited at the event, but just to get through security.
To bring the team luck, Holbrook will be wearing his Tedy
Bruschi jersey, a piece of attire that is not without controversy among his friends. While the retired #54 is his favorite player, Holbrook has had friends call him after losses to confirm that he was, indeed, wearing the jersey.
"I've been wearing it this year, though, and they've had good luck," he said. "I can't change it now -- we all have our superstitions."
