MILLBURY, Mass. - The Millbury School Committee approved a new bid for the School Bus proposal on Wednesday night at Millbury High School.
The School Bus proposal was read by Business Manager Richard Bedard who said the proposal by J.H. McCarthy Limo/Atlantic Express Bus Service was a three year proposal for $2,911,380 which came in significantly lower than the one proposed by Illinois School Bus who bid $3,422,322. The new bid will charge approximately $309 per bus, per day. They will continue to supply 11 school buses and 2 mini-buses. The current contract pays $299 per bus, per day.
The committe also recognized and lauded Senior Emily Nasuti who signed a letter of intent to play Division 1 Soccer at Northeastern University.
Also appearing before the committee was eighth grader Christian Lopez. Lopez was chosen as the Millbury representative for the governor's 351 Program. An eighth grader from each town was chosen statewide to go to the State House, take part in a town meeting and then after being split up into groups perform a community service project.
Lopez drew chuckles from the committee as he said he was the only boy in a large group of girls. The group he was a part of performed a myriad of tasks at the Martin Luther King Jr. House. There the group put together care packages, did some painting in the building and wrapped up scarves for the needy. He also got to meet Governor Deval Patrick.
The school committee will hold a public hearing for the 2012 Budget on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in the media center of the High School.
